10 DAYS WESTERN UGANDA WILDLIFE AND GORILLAS
This 10 days’ adventure highlights the most interesting spots in western Uganda a safari goer shouldn’t miss out. You begin with tracking man’s closest relatives (the chimpanzees) in Kibale forest, wildlife in Queen Elizabeth National park, track the endangered mountain gorillas in Bwindi forest, relax on the lake of little birds(Lake Bunyonyi) and end with wildlife viewing in Uganda’s smallest savannah park(lake Mburo).
On your arrival at Entebbe Airport, you will be welcomed/picked up by your guide for transfer to your hotel in Kampala. On this day you will be briefed about your whole tour. Travel time-approx. 1.5 hrs. depending on Kampala traffic.
Day 2. Transfer to Kibale forest
You will be picked by African Wild Tours” representative/guide from you accommodation in Kampala to Kibale Forest. Be ready to pass tea plantations and other beautiful sceneries on your way to the forest. This evening, you may opt to either go for a Bigodi swamp walk where you can encounter a number of bird species or go for the crater valley hike. You then check in lodge for evening accommodation.
Day 3 Chimpanzee tracking
After breakfast, you should be ready to walk for about 45 minutes to 6 hours depending on where you will find the chimps and of course with a tracking expert. You will move with your packed lunch into Kibale Rain Forest which is home 13 primates species including, the white colobus, black colobus, red colobus, blue monkey bush babies nocturnal portal the chimpanzees and many species of butter flies. You may also be able to see forest elephants which are not as big as their cousins in the savannah. Hiking gear such as gum boots/hiking shoes, water proof bag, insect repellent, a hat are needed since the weather here is unpredictable.
Day 4 Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National park
Having had breakfast at leisure, you will be transferred to Queen Elizabeth National park arriving in time for lunch. After lunch, you will have a boat trip on the Kazinga channel. This is the water stream that joins lakes Edward and George and is said to have the largest concentration of hippos in the world. It is also known as the CENTER OF ECOLOGY due to many animals and bird species recorded on its banks. You then check in your lodge for evening accommodation.
DAY 5. Queen Elizabeth National Park
Today you wake up very early for the morning game drive through Mweya to see a number of animals. Expect to see elephants, warthogs,lions,leopards,cheetas,buffaloes,hippos,waterbucks,topis,Uganda kob, over 600 bird species, and many more. You then drive back to your lodge for late breakfast. Having had some rest, you have lunch and then go to the Kasenyi sector in search for more game. If weather allows, you also go to the Isasha sector in search for the rare tree climbing lions and then check in your lodge.
Day 6. Transfer to Bwindi.
Today, you will have an early morning breakfast and transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.. On your way there, you will see beautiful sceneries, the ever green plant cover which Uganda is known for and the terraced hills. Bwindi Impenatrable forest is home to more than half of the world’s surviving mountain gorillas, many other primates and many bird species. Arriving will be in the late afternoon and then check in your lodge for evening accommodation.
Day 7. Gorilla tracking.
After a mighty breakfast prepared by your accommodation, you enter the Impenetrable forest with your packed lunch to search for the endangered mountain gorillas. Be ready to walk for 45 minutes to hours depending on where you will find the gorillas that day. Having encountered them, you will be given a full hour to interact with gorillas and then return to your accommodation. In case you return early, you will enjoy cultural dances from the local community before checking in your lodge.
Day 8. Lake Bunyonyi.
After having breakfast at leisure, you will be led by your guide to Uganda’s deepest and most beautiful lake. (lake Bunyonyi). It is also known as THE LAKE OF 100 ISLANDS. This is some where you will feel relaxed after the tracking activities in Kibale and Bwindi. While there, you can join a number of optional activities including, canoeing, bird watching, hiking to the nearby falls and forests, visiting a local community, swimming and so on. Note that only Lake Bunyonyi and Lake Mutanda have been proved bilharzias free in Uganda and are safe to swim in.
Day 9. Transfer to Lake Mburo.
After a relaxed breakfast, you will drive to Lake Mburo National park. You shall have lunch on the way and arrive in the park in the late afternoon for an evening game drive and then check in your lodge for evening accommodation.
Day 10. Mburo to Kampala.
You shall wake up for early breakfast and a morning game drive in search for savannah animals and later go for a boat trip which will give you chance to view a number of animals including; the buffaloes, warthogs, antelopes, impalas, zebras, giraffes, and many more. Note that Lake Mburo is the only park in Uganda where you can spot large herds of impalas and eland and only park in Western Uganda where you can spot zebras. In the evening, you depart for Kampala having a stop at Kayabwe for taking photos and do a bit of souvenir shopping. You will be dropped off to your desired destination in Kampala or Entebbe hence end of service.

Note that weather at Bwindi/Kibale is un predictable, it can rain at any time. To confirm this tour, please make a 1/3 deposit of the quoted price. The remaining balance can be settled a day before your safari.
A flying Air Balloon Safari in Queen Elizabeth can be arranged on request. (US Dollars 380 per person) While on site, we accept payment in only US Dollars, GB Pound, Euro and UG Shillings. You can remove the bits you do not want and add the ones that you want to meet your budget and interest.
