Day 1 Arrival
On arrival at Kigali Airport, you will be welcomed by your guide for a briefing and transfer to your accommodation.
Day 2 Transfer to Nyungwe forest
You wake up for early breakfast and then embark on a long drive to Butare city. This is the second largest city in Rwanda and we shall visit the historical sites ere including the Rwanda museum. On the way, we shall visit the Nyanza housing (the King’s palace). We then continue to Nyungwe forest national park and check in our accommodation.
Day 3 Chimpanzee tracking
You wake up early, have a short briefing about the dos and don’ts of chimpanzee tracking and then enter the forest to search for man’s closest relatives (the chimpanzee). Expect to see other primates such as blue monkeys, red tailed monkeys, golden monkeys, colobus monkeys, mangabeys and many bird species. On this day, you are to feed on packed lunch.
Day 4 Transfer to Kibuye town
Having had breakfast, we leave for Kibuye town passing through tea plantations, explore the shores of Lake Kivu and then arrive at Kibuye. This is a beautiful resort on a Lake Kivu ideal for relaxing after the long day in Nyungwe Forest. You may opt to have a boat trip which can give you a good platform to learn about the birdlife around the lake.
Day 5: Gorilla trekking
After breakfast, you head to Volcanoes National park headquarters and have a briefing about the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking. You then enter the bamboo forest with your packed lunch to search for these primates. This can take you one to six hours depending on where you will find them that day. Having encountered them, you will be given a full hour with them. You will then get out of the forest to get your gorilla tracking certificate and relax at your accommodation.
Day 6 Transfer to Akagera national park
After breakfast, we visit Dian Fossey’s grave. She is remembered as a gorilla doctor from the US that carried out various researches about the gorillas. She arrived in 1967 and set up the Karisimbi Research Center between Karisimbi and Visoke. We then drive to eastern Rwanda to Akagera National park to enjoy more wildlife. We check in our lodge and begin our adventure with an evening game drive. The park is home to many animals which include; antelope’s species such as; impala, and topi, eland, oribi, Defassa water buck, reedbuck, bushbuck, sable and roan. Burchall’s Zebra, Maasai giraffe hippos, crocodile, buffaloes, and elephants are also present. To add to the excitement, Transvaal lions from South Africa were introduced in July 2015 and released being the first lions in Rwanda for 15 years.
Day 7 Game drive & Boat trip
We wake up at leisure; have breakfast, and game drive to search for more game. We then have a boat trip on Lake Ihema to watch animals easing their thirst on the shores. The birdlife here is also magnificent. Meal plan – Breakfast, lunch and supper.
Day 8 City tour and departure
After having breakfast, we drive to Kigali to have a city tour leading us to the genocide memorial, craft shops, Belgium memorial and the Kigali historical museum. You will then be transferred to the Airport to catch your flight back hence end of service.
